Week 8/21-8/25

Last week, we were really busy! The first day of school was filled with fun introductions using Flipgrid (check them out here: Period 1, Period 2, Period 4, and Period 5). After the fun, students buckled down and wrote their first essay. It was a diagnostic essay to get an idea of the strengths and weaknesses of their writing. After assessing them, we definitely have a lot of work to do when it comes to writing so we will be writing A LOT this year.  Our first focus will be the structure of an essay (7th-grade standard) and work our way to more analytical writing (8th-grade standard). We will start our next argumentative essay the first week of September.

This week, we will work on digital citizenship. In today's society, this is a very important skill for students to understand and apply to their daily lives. The last part of the week, students will set up their reference notebooks for English (they will need to have a composition notebook for this). This Friday will be their first AR log check of the year (some students even got a jump start reading this week)!
